Sarah's Tale

This is Sarah.
Christmas morning 2003 she was severely beaten by the man she was living with. Not the type of present she nor her 5 year old son deserved for Christmas.

Although the attack was as a result of a domestic incident the circumstances of the relationship were BDSM based.
Sarah met Richard at a munch. She was/is vanilla and went to the munch with her sister who is part of the local BDSM community.
Richard had been around the scene for a few years. The one BDSM relationship he had been in had lasted about 18 months and failed because he wasn't the BDSM Dom he claimed. His sub became unsettled in the relationship as he failed to match her BDSM expectations.
He was a dominant male with a temper, and often people will mistake that with lifestyle Dominant.

The thing about Richard was that he turned up to things, munches, clubs, fairs, and he talked the talk,. He became accepted as part of the community simply through familiarity.
This meant that when Sarah found herself drawn to him nobody around her questioned it or him. He was Richard, and 4 years worth of acquaintances and name-dropping could vouch that he was "real".

Some members of the community had misgivings about Richard. Knowledge of his failed relationship had marked him as non-BDSM a few years back. He had a temper, was aggressive, ex-army, a drug user and had some major unresolved issues that created a big chip on his shoulder. But he had not been violent to his previous partner so there was nothing tangible to offer as a warning.
He had also disappeared from the scene for a while and was "old news".
Because of his boyish, rogue-ish charm it is doubted that any misgivings, that may have been offered up as a warning to Sarah, would have been heeded anyway. As she was non-BDSM and he was perceived as being non-BDSM there seemed little reason to intervene in the budding realtionship.

It should also be noted that, as Sarah was BDSM-friendly, she believed she had entered into the relationship with a BDSM Dom and therefore had expectations of a code of honour and the belief that she could safely put her life in his hands. She was wrong.

Richard was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment with a minimum serve of 4 years and on licence to extend 4 years beyond the sentence
