The peg (aka the clothespin to our colonial cousins) has to be one of the cheapest BDSM toys available as well as one of most versatile. They can be bought in supermarkets, discount stores or markets. I recently paid 99p for a pack of 100. Wooden ones have nice smooth ends and a firm spring and, although they are intense pain givers, they are kinder and more aesthetically pleasing than their plastic counterparts. Plastic pegs tend to be brightly coloured and have a serrated grip that cuts into the skin. They are also prone to having uneven edges.
As a clamp, pegs can be applied to any bit of loose skin on the body from the face right down to the skin between the toes. Almost anything that can be done with fingertip squeezing can be done with pegs, as well as several things that cannot be accomplished with one's fingers. The actual grip of the peg can be tolerable or painful depending on the area it is applied, the length of time it is left in postion and the person's pain tolerance. Some women cannot bear a peg on the nipples whilst others find it an erotic sensation.

Weakening the Peg
Most wooden pegs of quality grip with between 4 and 6 pounds of pressure over an area of 3/16 X 1/2 inches. This is too much for some people to start off with. The easiest way of weakening the springs is by clamping them to something that requires the peg to be open to its limit for several days. This will reduce the clamping pressure by several pounds, dependent on the initial strength of the spring, the width of the opening, and the length of time allowed for stretching.
The ends can be dipped in liquid rubber to soften the grip but this is a long-winded and laborious task.

Where to Peg
The basic "rule" here is "if you can pinch it, you can peg it!"

Face Area : There are many places to use pegs in this area. The ears, nostrils, lips and tongue are easily available to slip pegs into place. Care should be taken not to catch the bit of flesh that ties the tongue to the bottom of the mouth. With time and care pegs can also be placed along the eyebrows, cheeks and jaw line. The face is not a good area to peg if you do not want any visible signs of "play" when you have finished. The pegs will certainly leave dents and red patches and may cause the lips to swell and go puffy.

Arms and Legs : The best, or worst areas, depending on whether you are the clamper or the clampee, are the underneath of the upper arms and the inner thighs. With care pegs can also be place around the soft skin at the back of the knees.

Breasts and Nipples: An obvious place to begin with pegs is the nipple. For beginners, try with a weakened peg and place the peg pointing straight onto the nipple, not from the side, gripping the base of the nipple, not the tip, and perhaps a bit of areola as well. This is a kinder grip than just pinching the nipple alone. The peg can also be positioned sideways, with the nipple centred in the hole of the clamping area. Rather than clamping the nipple only, work gradually out from the areola, building up circles of pegs around the breast.

Torso : Try pegging two symmetrical lines from the nipples/breasts down the body to the groin. Where to place pegs on the main torso is really down to the shape of the body you are working on, a bit of a belly gives you more scope for being artistic … and there's always room for an extra peg or two on the belly button. If the body is lying face down the pegs can be applied around the edge of the shoulder blade, though these may spring off with any arm or shoulder movement. The bum cheeks can be nipped in an array of positions. The pubis/groin area can also be pegged and leads to yet another interesting area for peg play.

Genitalia : On boys pegs can be placed along the shaft and foreskin of the penis and all over the scrotum, on girls they can be pinned along the lips. There are major sensation differences between the outer lips and more sensitive inner tissues. Grasping the inner labia with the same force is likely to cause considerably more pain than anticipated and it best avoided as the tissue is too thin to stand this type of treatment. Placing a peg for just a few seconds on the inner labia will produce a satisfying yelp but anything longer than that can be damaging.
Likewise placing a peg on the clit is like touching a raw nerve on a lot of women.

Hands and Feet : Pegs can go onto the end of any digit small enough to fit or can be positioned between fingers or toes by clamping them onto the thin bit of "webbing" between the digits.

The Pain Factor
As kids, and most probably as adults too, we have all pinched someone at some time and know that a better result is achieved by a nasty little nip than by grabbing a large area, this applies to pegs as well. The degree of pain from the pinch depends on the position of the peg. Gripping a large portion of flesh in as far as the peg can go will be considerably more comfortable than nipping a small thin bit of skin. However, although a peg can hurt when it is on the skin the pain is nowhere near as bad as the pain that comes when the peg is removed. As the dented skin reshapes back to normal and the blood returns to the depressed area the pain is very intense. How intense is determined by how long the pegs has been in position. It is generally recommended that pegs are not left in position for longer than half an hour. If you intend leaving the pegs in place longer than 30 mins be aware of any tingling or discolouring of extremities, such as nipples, that have had the circulation restricted and remove the peg immediately.

Peg Play
Weights : Drill holes in the squeezable end of the peg and hang weights, attached by hooks or cords, from them. Swinging or rocking the weights will cause the pegs to slip out of position, gradually pulling them off the skin. The gradual movement of the pegs builds an anticipation as the clampee is aware of that last nasty nip as the peg finally drops off.
Tapping : Tapping or lightly brushing the tips of attached pegs is effective or try running a vibrator slowly across them.
Pulling : Pulling a peg straight off without opening it is a quick and effective way of getting a yelp from the wearer but quick isn't always fun. Try alternating by pulling one peg off swiftly then quickly opening the next one.
Fast Opening : This is extremely effective if the peg has been in position for some time. Just squeeze it open fast and wide. The blood tries to rush in fast and the pain is very intense.

Re-applying : If the pain from fast opening wasn't enough for your tastes turn the peg through 90 degrees and re-apply it to the same position a few seconds after the initial pain shock has started to subside. This pinches the skin in a different direction to the first pinch and the pain from re-application is extremely intense.
Flogging or Whipping : Use a flogger to knock the pegs off the body or if you are skilled enough try targeting each peg with a single tailed whip.
Wax : Drip or pour wax over pegged areas, especially in the genital regions. When the pegs are removed they will bring large areas of wax with them. A mixed sensation is then created with the pain that comes with the removal of the peg and the sudden feel of refreshingly cool air onto the area reddened and heated by the wax.
Deprivation : One quick way of relieving the pain of peg removal is to let the clampee rub the pinched area of skin. Depriving them of that priviledge ensures that the full effect of peg play is experienced by all.

Peg Zipper

Zippers : Zippers are easy to make (Click Here) by threading and knotting pegs along a line of cord. Most pegs have a coiled spring and the thread can be passed through that, but if there is nowhere to thread a cord then you will need to drill holes on the pegs. The pegs on the cord are then attached to the desired part of the body. Obviously the joy of the zipper is once again in the removal. This can be done by taking one end of the zipper and pulling the pegs off in quick succession, or by holding both ends and pulling the pegs away simultaneously. If you do not have threaded pegs available a similar effect can be achieved by putting a strong tape like Duck Tape across the pegs when they are already on the body and using the tape to pull them off.
