Medical Conditions
Diabetes
With diabetes you need to be careful here on several fronts.
Diabetics are prone to poor circulation, infections and heart disease.
Take care when tying bondage ligatures, and avoid anything that raises bruises or causes bleeding as the infection risk is higher.
Take special care of the feet. Damage in this area can easily lead to infections which have been known to result in the need to amputate the foot and even the lower leg
Long term diabetics can also have poor nerves, so sensation is reduced in (especially) feet so more damage could be done without them realising.
Heart disease is also more common and diabetics are more prone to 'silent' heart attacks (a heart attack that happens with no warning chest pain).
Heart Problems
People with heart problems are prone to arrhythmias. This is where the heart
starts beating fast, slow or strangely.
Adrenaline and other stress/ pain
hormones increase the chances of this happening.
Asthma
People prone to Asthma have over reactive airways, they go in to spasm in
response to irritation, this is most often dust mite poo, but can be
pollen, cigarette smoke, chemicals in plastics (such as rubber etc) and in
some people stress.
An attack can come on very suddenly and is life
threatening. They need their inhalers ASAP and may even need nebulisers
and intravenous steroids.
Colds
Be careful blocking people's mouths with gags when they have a cold.
People have been asphyxiated by having their mouth blocked/ taped closed
when their nose is blocked.
Circulation Problems
Beware of bongage ligatures and tight cuffs most especially in suspension play.
People with poor circulation are prone to the arteries blocking completely, and the slowed circulation caused by ligatures and forced positioning can trigger this.
Fingers should be warm and pink, pulses should be palpable behind the ankle, on the top of the
foot and at the wrist. Nail beds should go white when the nail is pressed,
and return pink when released.
Any limb that looks dusky, grey or blue should be seen by a doctor immediately... if it's not operated on quickly (and even if it is) in might need to be amputated.
Even in partners who do not suffer from poor circulation be sure to check with them to see if they are experiencing tingling or numbness, like pins and needles, in any limbs or extremities and keep a watchful eye on the skin coloration. Release them from bondage immediately.
