The victim would be sat, legs, astride and with the hands tied so the full body weight would be forged onto the back ridge of the horse. Often the body would be weighted or have splints fastened to the legs so that the administrators, or the common crowd, could rock the limbs back and forth to cause more discomfort.
Wheels were sometimes attached to horses so the victim could be pulled through the streets. Considering most streets were either cobbled or rough track in the old days this must have caused a great deal of pain. |
