Take a length of rope and form two equal sized loops.
Place one loop partly over the other to form an overlap.

Bring the overlapped edge of the bottom loop up through the top loop
And bring the overlapped edge of the top loop down through the bottom loop

Keep hold of the loops and pull them gently away from each other.
Keep pulling until a tidy knot has formed in the middle.

Place wrists into the loops and pull the loose ends away from the hands to tighten.

When used as a part of rope work the loose ends can be fastened into the main part of your body rope.

As simple handcuffs they are best used with the hands behind the back where teeth cannot be deployed to unfasten them. Keep the fastening knot and loose ends towards the back of the hands so nimble fingers cannot reach them.
